Frequently Asked Questions.

  • According to Traditional Chinese Medicine theory, acupuncture works to balance the flow of Qi (energy), which circulates through the body along central pathways, known as meridians. The obstruction or deficiency of Qi will eventually lead to pain and illness. Acupuncture stimulates the points along the meridians to adjust and balance the flow of Qi and restore health.

  • People often comment that the feeling is unfamiliar, but pleasant and relaxing. Different sensations such as heaviness, soreness, distending, warmth and pressure may be felt.

  • The vast majority of acupuncture points can be needled painlessly, while some points, due to their surrounding structural anatomy may be considered uncomfortable, or inflict a slight pinch. Any discomfort usually disappears within seconds.

  • Yes! We use sterile and disposable needles approved by the FDA. They are metallic, solid, flexible and hair-thin, unlike the thicker, hollow, hypodermic needles used to take blood samples.

  • The 1st visit takes about 1–1.5 hours. Follow-up visits are about 1 hour. The needles are usually retained for about 25–30 minutes.

  • Since each person is unique, the number of treatments required will vary, depending on the type of condition, whether it’s chronic or acute, as well as the overall health of the individual. Keep in mind, dramatic results are unusual after a single treatment. Most patients will experience a gradual relief of their symptoms over days, weeks or months.

  • Some people report feeling relaxed but a little tired while others feel full of energy immediately after treatment; both are normal. Others notice effects a day or two after treatment. Occasionally a small bruise may appear where a needle has been inserted but this should disappear within a day or two.

  • We suggest wearing loose, comfortable clothing.

  • Chinese herbs are effective and safe when prescribed by a well-trained herbal practitioner. Our comprehensive training in herbal medicine guides our careful attention to dosage, combinations of herbs and any known drug-herb interactions. We only purchase our herbs from reputable suppliers who adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs). GMPs are guidelines that govern the manufacturing process of a product to ensure that the quality and safety of the product is consistent. By documenting the manufacturing process, validating the equipment used, and following preset guidelines, the quality of the herbs is ensured.

Herbs are typically gentler and have fewer side effects than pharmaceutical drugs because of their balancing or regulating effect on the body. The most common side-effect, if any, is gas and bloating due to slight difficulty digesting the herbs. Patients who experience this or any other side effect should notify us immediately so we can alter the dosage or modify the formula.

  • No. You should continue to follow your current physician’s instructions. Do, however, let us know what medications, herbs and supplements you are taking, so we can consider any interactions. Some herbs can complement Western medications, either by helping to eliminate their side-effects or by boosting the body’s immune system. The regular use of herbs may eventually reduce the body’s need for western drugs.

  • "I have seen Andrea over time for various sports injuries…she is amazing! I was suffering from tennis elbow and could hardly lift a juice container from the refrigerator. After a few treatments, “poof” I was 100% better. I don’t want to call it magic, but it really was! The interesting part was, after the first treatment, it didn’t feel better, maybe even a drop worse, but Andrea encouraged me to continue. I trusted her advice and sure enough, I was “fixed”! Most importantly, is Andrea’s knowledge and bedside manner. She is completely professional and takes time to understand the whole person. I am happy to recommend Andrea…she is a true doctor of Chinese medicine!"

  • “I love being outdoors especially running but sometimes I would overexert myself training for a marathon and experience pain in the areas of IT band, calf, and hips. Chong was able to use acupuncture, cupping, and Tui Na massage to help relieve the tightness and pain. Chong is attentive, caring, and most importantly helped restored my active lifestyle!”

  • "From the first meeting with Andrea, I knew I was in excellent hands. Andrea is thorough and extremely well qualified. She really listens and truly cares. I felt immediate results from my first acupuncture treatment. In subsequent sessions, she has addressed all my concerns. The debilitating menopausal symptoms I had been experiencing for years have all subsided. The severe pain from a nodule near my spine has lessened significantly, and the nodule itself has decreased in size. It is an honor to recommend Andrea enthusiastically and without reservation. She is a wonder!"

  • I had Lyme symptoms, pain in my neck and lower back to the point that I had trouble walking. I needed to get better fast since I was going on a big trip in one month. I went to see Jin and she did several treatments on me and prescribed Chinese medicine to help. In exactly 3 weeks I had no pain, was walking normal and had energy which isn't normal for me. I was able to go on my big trip and be fine the entire time even though I walked during most of it. Now I go as needed because I get exhausted easily from overdoing everything. One thing I appreciate are her her reasonable prices as well as is that she doesn't push you to come back regularly. She even told me once after I wanted to come back to just give my body time to react to the treatment, wait and I'd see results and she was right. She's young but she is good at what she does.

  • "I first came to see Lisa to address the colds my five year old and two year old frequently acquired. She helped resolve the cold, for which my family is grateful. My youngest son also fell down quite a bit in his attempts to start walking. Lisa aided in resolving the post concussion vomiting and unsteady walking. I would recommend her to another family in need of care for their children."

  • Jin is GREAT. One visit and you will see how knowledgeable and thorough she is, working not just with acupuncture, but with herbs, lifestyle choices and TCM. Jin has helped me to make positive strides in regards to my health and I am so glad I chose Westchester Health Acupuncture her over other local acupuncturists.

  • "I have never provided a testimonial but do so in hope that my share of my experience can be of benefit to others. Having watched Lisa, through acupuncture, be able to bring relief to many of my wife’s aches and pains when all other approaches seemed to provide little relief has been a blessing. With a recent round of back to back colds and having reached the point of being sick and tired of being sick and tired, I ventured my 1st acupuncture not knowing what relief might come. Just a few minutes of treatment brought welcome improvement of being able to breathe freely and lifted energy level. In watching Lisa at work it is visible to me that for her acupuncture is a mixture of life’s passion, compassion and a channel for providing relief for the suffering of others."

  • This was my first time trying facial acupuncture, I came to see Chong because I was looking for a natural way to improve my dull complexion and fine lines starting to form. She sat with me and went over all aspects of my health and explained that in Chinese Medicine, the face is a reflection of your overall health, so improving your face will help me improve my overall health! The needles were not painful and the session was very calming, after just one session, I saw that my complexion was brighter and I felt very relaxed!
